This section would include a statement on host students are responsible for knowing University academic policies as well as any additional policies of their College. This section would link to the University’s guide to various policies and procedures. This section would contain the following subcategories:

    • A statement on student attendance would be included.
  • Academic advising
    • Student enrolled in certain majors are required to see advisors before each registration period. Even if academic advising is not mandatory, student are encouraged to seek out their academic advisor at least once per semester. Students can contact their academic advisor by getting in touch with their academic college.

    • This section would include information on academic probation and dismissal.
  • Withdrawal
    • This section would include information on academic withdrawal from Michigan State University.
  • Military call-up
    • This section would include information on Michigan State’s policy regarding active military students.

    • Include information regarding Michigan State’s policy on minimum GPA requirements and information on how GPA is calculated.

– This section will include MSU’s campus policy on alcohol use by students on campus and in the residence halls. This section will also be engaging for parents and provide questions for parents to discuss with their student before he/she begins classes.

– This section will also provide hyperlinks to articles related to college drinking and alcohol use among undergraduate students.

 

Recommended Reading:
– This section will provide a list of books/articles on being a parent of a college student so that parents have a go-to spot for recommended reading on their new role as a parent of a college student.

 

Housing:
– This section will provide a broad overview of on-campus housing at Michigan State University and provide a list of FAQs regarding student housing.

 

Academic Standing:
– This section will provide an overview of academic credits at MSU and provide parents an understanding of how the process it takes for students to reach enough credits to graduate.

 

Scholarships:
– This section will link to MSU’s financial aid website where scholarships are listed.

Internships:
– This section will link to the Career Services Network and explain how Spartan students can find internship opportunities.

 

MISC Questions:

Spiritual Resources on Campus:
– This section will provide and overview of the campus’ spiritual resources.

 

Campus and Community Relations:
– Get a description from Sue for this section.

 

Transportation:
– This section will describe some of the local travel options: CATA, taxis, etc. It will link to CATA’s website so parents can view the bus pass costs, routes, operation times, etc.

 

Career Planning:
– This section will link to the Career Services Network site and be broken down into four sections in terms of what students may be doing during their time at MSU. For example:

  • Freshmen Section- describe how freshmen may begin to explore their career interests
  • Sophomore Section- describe the process of looking for an internship and potential timelines
  • Junior Section- describe how students begin to think about graduate/professional school and the job search
  • Senior Section- provide information on the job search and life after college

 

Olin Health Services:
– This section will contain a list of FAQs pulled directly from Olin’s website as well as a link to Olin’s page.

 

Counseling Services:
– This section will provide a lot of educational resources for parents. It will describe possible ways to know if a child is experiencing depression or withdraw symptoms. It will also link to the Counseling Center’s webpage so that parents can have a direct link to the resources offered there.

 

Financial Aid:
– This question will describe what the FAFSA is, how it is used, EFC, and a link to the Financial Aid office’s website. It will also provide a timeline for when/how to fill out the FAFSA.

 

Greek Life:
– This section will contain broad information on Greek Life. Michael will work with Trace and Kyle to develop a list of FAQs pertaining specifically to Greek Life.

 

Off-Campus Shopping:
– This section will list some of the shopping areas near campus and highlight that they are all accessible via CATA bus.

 

Veterans Services:
– This section will provide information about Veteran Services at MSU.

 

Campus Maps:
– Links to the Campus map page will be placed here as well as campus map images for easier access.

 

First Generation Families:
– This would be a very unique section for the MSU Parent Resources Center website. It would focus specifically on providing information/support to first generation families. This section could contain the following: literature relating to first-generation families, specific challenges, and a list of common acronyms/college language.

 

International Families:
– This would be a unique section for the MSU Parent Resource Center website. After reviewing other institutions’ websites, not many of them connect or engage specifically with international families. The purpose of this section would be to provide vignettes from current international families/students at MSU so that other current/prospective international families would have a better insight into life here at Michigan State.

 

RCPD Information:
– This section would provide a link to the RCPD website.

 

Culinary Services:
– This section would highlight different on-campus dining options and provide locations and a link to dining menus.

 

Coupons:
– This section would potentially provide coupons to on-campus/off-campus vendors.

 

Study Abroad and Study Away:
– This section would link to and provide information on Study Away/Study Abroad opportunities and highlight any pertinent information regarding the application process and actual experience.[/fusion_text][/fullwidth]
